Our Nifty prediction tomorrow for Tuesday, October 13, 2026 has to start with a weak close. The Nifty 50 finished Monday at 22,363.35, down 157.10 points or 0.70%, after throwing away an early climb to 22,651.10. Analysts now see support at 22,300 and then in the 22,200-22,150 band, with resistance at 22,600 and then 22,800. On Monday evening GIFT Nifty was hinting at a flat start. Here we lay out the levels, the signals behind them, and three ways Tuesday could play out.

Every index value here is from NSE’s index data for October 12. Analyst levels come from reports published after the close. Read this as an educational outlook, not a buy or sell call.

How Monday, October 12 Played Out

The day started well. NSE data shows the Nifty 50 opened at 22,593.20, above Friday’s close of 22,520.45, and pushed up to 22,651.10. Then the selling started, and it didn’t let up much. The index dropped to 22,304.45 before settling at 22,363.35. So it closed nearly 290 points under its intraday high and only about 59 points above its low. That’s not a pretty candle.

The Sensex lost 547.65 points, or 0.76%, to 71,924.68, Livemint reported. Bank Nifty slipped 338.65 points, or 0.61%, to 54,918, after moving between 54,708.80 and 55,416.45.

The broader market went its own way. According to NSE data, the Nifty Midcap 100 edged up 0.08% to 58,834.55 and the Nifty Smallcap 100 jumped 1.42% to 19,425.80. Breadth was close to even. Upstox’s market wrap counted 1,795 stocks up and 1,798 down out of 3,706 traded on the NSE. Within the Nifty 50, though, it was lopsided: 36 stocks fell and just 13 rose.

Sectors and stocks that moved the index

FMCG took the worst beating, with the Nifty FMCG index down 1.67%, as per NSE. Upstox data has Nifty PSU Bank down 1.18% and Nifty IT down 0.79%. On the other side, media gained 4.6%, auto 0.9%, realty 0.76% and pharma 0.45%.

Among Nifty 50 names, the biggest losers were Apollo Hospitals (-3.15%), ITC (-3.05%), Tech Mahindra (-2.85%), Larsen & Toubro (-2.05%) and Max Healthcare (-2.02%). Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (+2.71%), Bajaj Auto (+2.62%) and Tata Motors PV (+1.63%) led the gainers. Our list of top losers on the NSE for October 12 goes into why the laggards fell.

Monday’s session started with a gain and closed near its low. That kind of reversal matters more for Tuesday than the 0.70% loss itself.

What the Charts Are Telling Us

The Moneycontrol technical view for Monday flagged several warning signs:

  • Candle: The Nifty printed a long red candle with small shadows, which Moneycontrol read as persistent weakness. It came right after Friday’s Bullish Harami, so that bullish setup got no follow-through buying at all.
  • Moving averages: The index tested its 10-day exponential moving average (EMA) near 22,610 and turned back. It remains below all its key short- and long-term moving averages, and those averages are pointing down.
  • RSI: Moneycontrol placed the daily Relative Strength Index in the “super-bearish zone” under the RSI range-shift framework.
  • MACD: The MACD has been in a bearish crossover for nearly two months. On Monday the histogram did show bearish momentum easing slightly. That’s the only early hint that the selling may be slowing.

In the same report, Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities, said the market looks set to revisit its recent swing low near 22,180. A decisive break below 22,200, in his view, could drag the index toward 21,700, while any bounce could run into strong resistance near 22,600.

Shrikant Chouhan, head of equity research at Kotak Neo, told Livemint that a slip under 22,300 could bring a retest of 22,200-22,150. He put immediate resistance at 22,400, and said a move past it could lift the index toward 22,500-22,640. He also described the market as “volatile and non-directional” and suggested day traders stick to level-based trading.

Classic pivot levels (our calculation)

A lot of intraday traders also lean on floor-trader pivots. We worked these out from Monday’s NSE high (22,651.10), low (22,304.45) and close (22,363.35):

  • Pivot (P) = (High + Low + Close) / 3 = about 22,440
  • R1 = 2P – Low = about 22,575; R2 = P + (High – Low) = about 22,786
  • S1 = 2P – High = about 22,228; S2 = P – (High – Low) = about 22,093

These are plain formulas, not forecasts. Still, notice that S1 near 22,228 sits right by the 22,200-22,180 support zone the analysts talk about, and R2 near 22,786 is close to the 22,800 hurdle. When levels from different methods bunch up like this, traders tend to watch them harder.

Options Data and India VIX

Moneycontrol’s read of the weekly options data shows where option writers have set up:

  • Call side (resistance): The highest Call open interest is at the 22,500 and 22,600 strikes, followed by 22,700-22,800.
  • Put side (support): The highest Put open interest is at the 22,000 strike, followed by 22,300 and 22,200.

Put those together and option writers seem to expect a range of roughly 22,000 to 22,600 in the near term. A close outside it would suggest some of those positions are being unwound.

India VIX, the market’s volatility gauge, rose 5.98% to 15.24 on Monday from 14.38, according to NSE. Moneycontrol pointed out that VIX is trading above all its key moving averages, and said a sustained move above 15 could make life harder for bullish positions. A higher VIX usually means bigger intraday swings, so stop-losses that worked fine last week may now be too tight.

Global and Macro Cues for Tuesday

GIFT Nifty: At 6:55 PM IST on Monday, GIFT Nifty was at 22,377, up 0.03%, according to the GIFT Nifty pre-market tracker. That points to a flat open near 22,370. It can shift overnight, so check again before 9:15 AM. Our GIFT Nifty update for October 13 has more on the early signals.

Crude oil: Brent crude futures traded in a $105-106 a barrel range on Monday, Moneycontrol said, and the tracker had Brent at $106.83 (+2.01%) by Monday evening. Religare Broking’s Ajit Mishra told Livemint that elevated Brent was limiting any relief on inflation.

Rupee and RBI: The rupee gained 1.05% in a single session to close at 95.76 against the US dollar, according to Moneycontrol. A Mint report carried by IndiaIPO linked this to RBI steps on Saturday. Those included a special window for the dollar needs of state-run oil companies and a reserve requirement on certain foreign-exchange derivatives. They came after the rupee got close to the record low of 97 per dollar. The RBI had also raised interest rates the Wednesday before. Our explainer on how the RBI repo rate affects the stock market covers that decision.

Foreign selling: NSDL data shows foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have net sold ₹47,417 crore of Indian equities in October. That runs up to the report dated October 12, and NSDL says it covers trades up to the previous trading day. FPI net equity selling for 2026 now stands at ₹3,07,719 crore. Geojit’s V K Vijayakumar told Livemint that FPI selling is the main reason the market has lagged this year, with US 10-year yields above 5.2% a key cause.

Asia and the US: South Korea’s Kospi fell about 3.7% on Monday, while Japan was shut for a holiday. In the latest US session the Dow gained 0.83%, the S&P 500 0.59% and the Nasdaq Composite 0.64%, as per the pre-market tracker.

Inflation data: Retail inflation numbers came out after Monday’s close. The MoSPI release shows CPI inflation rose to 5.54% in September 2026 from 4.83% in August, and food inflation climbed to 7.74% from 5.97%. Tuesday is the first session where equities get to react. Before the release, Mint had said the data could give cues on further rate hikes.

The strongest support on the board is the 22,200-22,150 area. Several separate methods point to it, and a clean break below it would leave the next big support near 22,000.

Three Ways Tuesday Could Go

1. Bullish case: reclaim 22,400, then test 22,600

A flat open, as GIFT Nifty suggests, followed by a push above 22,400 would play into Kotak Neo’s bounce setup toward 22,500-22,640. The 22,600-22,610 band, home to the 10-day EMA and heavy Call open interest, is where sellers showed up on Monday. Only a close above 22,800 would bring 22,900-23,000 into view, according to Moneycontrol.

2. Base case: range between 22,200 and 22,600

The options data and the near-even breadth both point to a sideways day. The Nifty could hold the 22,200-22,180 swing-low zone and still fail to get past 22,600. Range traders would look for rejection near the top of the band and buyers near the bottom, with tight stops either way.

3. Bearish case: break of 22,200

If the index closes decisively below 22,200, HDFC Securities’ Shetti sees room for a drop toward 21,700. On the way down, the 22,000 strike with the highest Put open interest is the support to watch. Weak crude, rupee or Asian cues overnight would make this one more likely.

Bank Nifty Levels to Watch

Bank Nifty closed under its 10-day EMA and couldn’t hold its 20-day EMA near 55,425, Moneycontrol reported. Its RSI eased to 42.33, but the MACD stayed in a bullish crossover, so momentum is holding up a little better than price. Sudeep Shah, Head of Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities, sees 54,500-54,400 as key support. A sustained move under 54,400 could stretch the fall toward 53,800. He has 55,400-55,500 as the main resistance zone, and expects a range-bound outlook with a slight negative bias until the index clears it.

Trading Checklist for October 13

  • Recheck GIFT Nifty and Brent crude between 8:30 and 9:00 AM IST.
  • See where the first 15-minute range sits against 22,300 and 22,400.
  • Track India VIX against the 15 mark. If VIX keeps rising, go smaller.
  • Keep an eye on any shift in Put open interest at 22,200-22,300 through the day.
  • Watch how rate-sensitive banks take the 5.54% CPI print, and follow the rupee after the RBI’s weekend measures.

Bottom Line

Going into Tuesday, the Nifty is below its key moving averages, its momentum readings are weak and volatility is picking up. Sellers still have the upper hand. The range to watch is 22,200-22,150 below and 22,600-22,800 above. A flat GIFT Nifty and slowing MACD momentum do leave room for a bounce. But a decisive close outside that band will tell us far more about the next move than the opening tick will.
