Pharma stocks to watch Sun Pharma NCD news leads the sector on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. On October 12, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries’ board approved a private-placement framework for listed, rated, unsecured, redeemable non-convertible debentures (NCDs) for an aggregate amount not exceeding Rs 10,000 crore. That’s the exact wording in the exchange-linked summaries on StockWatch, Business Upturn and TipRanks. It is not a confirmed allotment of the full Rs 10,000 crore. ZeeBiz‘s October 13 stocks-to-watch note put Sun Pharma under fundraising with a shorter “raises Rs 10,000 crore through NCDs” line. Until tranche allotment filings show up, the board-approval language is the safer one to go by. For the wider Sensex and Nifty wrap as the session moves, use our stock market today India hub.

Pharma stocks to watch Sun Pharma NCD: what the board actually signed off
On October 12, 2026, Sun Pharma’s board authorised listed, rated, unsecured, redeemable NCDs on a private placement basis, in one or more tranches or series, for an aggregate amount not exceeding Rs 10,000 crore. It also approved a related issuance framework and handed the Finance Committee the job of fixing each tranche’s terms: pricing, allotment timing and the other commercial details. Those decisions are still with the committee. Nothing has been raised yet. Business Upturn notes that more disclosures will follow under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, as the placement goes ahead. TipRanks and StockWatch also record, from the same meeting, the resignation of non-executive independent director Gautam Doshi, effective October 12, 2026, for personal reasons. The company said there were no other material reasons and placed on record its appreciation for his contributions and committee work.
The October 12 ceiling is smaller than what the company floated a week earlier. Sun Pharma’s own SE filing dated 07 October 2026, published on sunpharma.com, told NSE (code SUNPHARMA) and BSE (code 524715) that the October 12 board meeting would, among other things, consider listed, rated, unsecured, redeemable NCDs in one or more tranches on a private placement basis for an aggregate amount not exceeding Rs 15,000 crore. Livemint reported that notice the same evening. So the order of events for traders is this: a notice for up to Rs 15,000 crore on October 7, then board approval for up to Rs 10,000 crore on October 12, with the Finance Committee yet to set tranche terms. Reading “up to Rs 10,000 crore approved” as “Rs 10,000 crore already raised” goes further than the filings and board summaries do.
For October 13, the actionable NCD fact is approval of a private-placement ceiling of up to Rs 10,000 crore with tranche terms still with the Finance Committee — not a verified full drawdown of that ceiling.
Why the market links the NCD to the Organon refinance
Behind the framework is a much bigger acquisition-finance story. ET Markets and Livemint, both carrying a September 29, 2026 Reuters report, said Sun Pharma planned to raise around 100 billion rupees ($1.04 billion) through a rupee debt sale to partly pay off a bridge loan taken to buy US healthcare firm Organon & Co. According to those sources, the company had closed syndication of a nearly $12 billion, 18-month bridge loan earlier in the year, with State Bank of India among the lenders, and the domestic bonds were expected in shorter two-, three- and four-year maturities. Sun Pharma didn’t immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment. So the refinancing purpose is still reported, not confirmed. It helps explain why a large NCD shelf landed on the board’s agenda, but the October 12 approval summaries don’t themselves state a use of proceeds.
Earlier coverage of the deal size fits that bridge-loan scale. Business Standard wrote in May 2026 about Sun Pharma’s definitive agreement to buy Organon for $11.75 billion in an all-cash deal, with bankers then expecting roughly $10 billion from various funding sources and the rest from internal accruals. Livemint’s October 7 board-meeting story directly tied the proposed NCD to media reports about refinancing part of the Organon bridge loan. Here’s where that leaves us. The board has now set a formal Indian NCD ceiling of up to Rs 10,000 crore. The Organon takeout is the market’s working explanation for why. Coupon, tenure and allotment size will only become clear once the Finance Committee acts and the follow-up Regulation 30 filings come out.
Livemint’s October 7 piece also updated the operating picture. For the June quarter, Sun Pharma reported consolidated net profit up 27% year on year at Rs 2,894.79 crore, and consolidated revenue from operations of Rs 15,299.88 crore against Rs 13,851.4 crore a year earlier. Separately, it signed an exclusive deal with US-based LIB Therapeutics to manufacture, commercialise and globally license lerodalcibep, a once-monthly PCSK9 inhibitor, outside the United States and China. Livemint cited a $3.7 billion PCSK9 market outside the US and China growing at a 38% compound annual growth rate, with Europe alone at $2.9 billion on a MAT Q2 2026 basis. That’s why balance-sheet flexibility matters beyond Organon too: the company is making specialty and innovative-medicine bets while carrying a multi-billion-dollar acquisition loan.
Nifty Pharma: steady on Monday, giving some back early Tuesday
The other half of today’s watchlist is how the sector is trading. On Monday, October 12, the broader market sold off but Nifty Pharma held firm. Livemint‘s Nifty Pharma page showed the index closing at 26,078.85, up 116.80 points or 0.45%, after opening at 25,985.60, with a day’s high of 26,123.05 and a low of 25,888.30 against a previous close of 25,962.05. The 52-week range on the same page was 21,149.90–27,255.05. Compare that with the cash market in ET Markets‘ October 13 stocks-in-news wrap: the Nifty 50 fell 157 points, or 0.70%, to 22,363 on Monday, dragged by rising bond yields, steady FII outflows and global uncertainty. LKP Securities’ Rupak De saw immediate support at 22,300 (then 22,100) and resistance at 22,420 and 22,650.
At the October 12 close, Livemint listed Sun Pharmaceutical Industries at Rs 1,760, flat (0.00%), which stands out given the evening headlines on the NCD and the director’s exit. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories topped the positive contributors at Rs 1,229.40, up 32.40 points or 2.71%. Cipla closed at Rs 1,311.30, up 10.30 points or 0.79%, and Divi’s Laboratories at Rs 9,426.00, up 86.00 points or 0.92%. Laurus Labs gained 1.60% to Rs 2,069.20, Zydus Lifesciences 1.51% to Rs 1,134.40, Torrent Pharmaceuticals 0.54% to Rs 4,682.00 and Aurobindo Pharma 0.82% to Rs 1,706.90. On the losing side, Lupin fell 1.10% to Rs 1,935.00, Wockhardt 1.66% to Rs 1,963.20 and Alkem Laboratories 1.40% to Rs 5,205.00. These are October 12 closing moves against the previous close, not Tuesday’s session, which is still playing out.
By Tuesday morning, the sector had given back part of that cushion. Livemint’s Nifty Pharma page, last updated Tuesday 13 October 2026 at 09:32:02 IST when we pulled it for this note, had the index at 25,854.65, down 224.20 points or 0.86%. It opened at 26,057.95 and traded between 26,079.00 and 25,773.75, against Monday’s 26,078.85 close. Early drags in that snapshot included Wockhardt (−2.63% to Rs 1,911.50), Sai Life Sciences (−2.51% to Rs 1,434.40), Laurus Labs (−2.23% to Rs 2,023.10) and Divi’s Laboratories (−2.00% to Rs 9,237.50). Cipla was barely moving at Rs 1,310.80 (−0.04%), and so was Dr. Reddy’s at Rs 1,229.30 (−0.01%). These are timed morning prints. Check live NSE/BSE quotes before acting, because a mid-session bounce in Nifty Pharma or another Sun Pharma filing could change the picture by afternoon.
Monday’s Nifty Pharma +0.45% close at 26,078.85 while Nifty 50 fell 0.70% was defensive relative strength; Tuesday’s early −0.86% print near 25,855 shows that cushion is not automatic when the index tape softens again.
Index weight: why Sun Pharma’s NCD news moves the whole pharma basket
Sun Pharma isn’t a side name in this sector. Market-cap-based constituent weights compiled by smart-investing.in for Nifty Pharma, as of the October 12–13, 2026 update, put Sun Pharmaceutical Industries at 20.71%, the largest weight. Next came Divi’s Laboratories at 12.22%, Torrent Pharmaceuticals at 8.73%, Zydus Lifesciences at 5.57%, Laurus Labs at 5.49%, Cipla at 5.21%, Dr. Reddy’s at 5.04% and Lupin at 4.37%. The same page showed Nifty Pharma returns of −0.2% over one week, −3% over one month and +19.9% over one year, with the index at about 26,078.8 as of October 12. These weights are market-cap snapshots on that site’s own method, so check NSE for official rebalancing weights. The trading point is straightforward. If Sun Pharma re-rates up or down for any length of time after NCD tranche news, it moves Nifty Pharma far more than a mid-weight peer like Cipla or Lupin would.
So in today’s pharma stocks to watch Sun Pharma NCD checklist, Sun Pharma is the main event and the peers are there to confirm or contradict it. If Sun Pharma is quiet while Divi’s or Laurus swing 2% intraday, that’s stock-specific movement, not the market repricing the sector leader on its financing. If Sun Pharma gaps on a Finance Committee allotment disclosure and Nifty Pharma follows it tick for tick, the weights above are doing the work. Our earlier session note on Nifty Pharma today (Oct 12, 2026) and the Dr. Reddy’s wrap at Dr Reddy share price today already logged Monday’s spread across peers, which gives you a known close to compare Tuesday against.
Peer watchlist for October 13, using only real closes
When you scan the board, go by dated, sourced prints and today’s NCD calendar, not memory:
- Sun Pharma (SUNPHARMA): closed flat at Rs 1,760 on October 12 (Livemint). Look for Finance Committee tranche disclosures under Regulation 30, not just secondary headlines that shrink “approved up to Rs 10,000 crore” into “raised Rs 10,000 crore” (ZeeBiz versus StockWatch/TipRanks/Business Upturn). The Organon refinance angle is still Reuters-sourced via ET/Livemint until the company names the use of proceeds in a filing.
- Dr. Reddy’s: Monday’s Nifty Pharma leader, up +2.71% to Rs 1,229.40 (Livemint). Almost unchanged early Tuesday at Rs 1,229.30 (−0.01%) on the 09:32 IST Livemint snapshot, so the question is whether Monday’s lead holds or fades.
- Cipla: up +0.79% to Rs 1,311.30 on Monday; Rs 1,310.80 (−0.04%) early Tuesday. A mid-weight (about 5.21% on smart-investing’s table) and a liquid stand-in for domestic formulations.
- Divi’s Laboratories: up +0.92% to Rs 9,426 on Monday; down −2.00% to Rs 9,237.50 early Tuesday. The second-heaviest Nifty Pharma weight (~12.22%), and often the swing stock in CDMO/API when US generics and export stories move.
- Lupin: down −1.10% to Rs 1,935 on Monday. Handy for checking whether any weakness is about Sun Pharma alone or the wider mid-pharma group.
- Laurus / Zydus / Torrent / Aurobindo: Monday gainers in Livemint’s positive-contributor table, with Laurus already lower early Tuesday (−2.23% to Rs 2,023.10 on the Livemint snapshot). Use them as secondary confirmation. They have nothing to do with the NCD.
The index around the sector still matters. ET Markets’ Monday wrap, with the Nifty 50 at 22,363 (−0.70%) and support at 22,300, is the risk-appetite backdrop for Nifty Pharma’s +0.45% on Monday and its early −0.86% on Tuesday. A weak benchmark open can drag down high-beta mid-pharma names even if Sun Pharma’s NCD is good for its balance sheet over the medium term; swapping a dollar bridge for rupee NCDs can cut currency and maturity mismatch risk if it’s done cleanly. On the other hand, a firm bounce elsewhere on the Nifty, led by IT or earnings, can leave pharma as a quiet pocket of relative strength. That’s exactly what Monday looked like.
What the NCD means for traders, and what it doesn’t
A board-approved NCD shelf of up to Rs 10,000 crore is a balance-sheet event, not an earnings print. The bullish case rests on the Reuters/ET/Livemint refinance reports: Sun Pharma is turning part of a near-$12 billion, 18-month Organon bridge into longer domestic paper, with two- to four-year tenors as sources expected then, and locking in rupee funding while US yields stay high (ET/Livemint noted the 10-year US yield at its highest since mid-June 2007 in that September 29 story). The cautious case is just as well sourced. The October 7 notice talked about up to Rs 15,000 crore, and the board authorised up to Rs 10,000 crore. Coupon, demand, listing on the debt segment and the real tranche size are all still unknown. Headlines saying the company “raised” the full amount before any allotment filing are jumping the gun.
Gautam Doshi’s resignation as independent director has been disclosed, and TipRanks, StockWatch and Business Upturn all describe it as personal. It’s a board change worth tracking for how committees get reshuffled, but it doesn’t replace looking at the NCD economics. The fundamentals are the June-quarter profit of Rs 2,894.79 crore (+27% YoY), revenue of Rs 15,299.88 crore (Livemint) and the LIB Therapeutics PCSK9 licence (same Livemint story). Leverage and interest costs will eventually be judged against those. None of them is an intraday trigger for Tuesday unless a new filing lands.
A checklist for the rest of October 13
To keep the read honest:
- Check whether any new BSE/NSE intimation allots a tranche, names coupon/tenure, or just repeats the Rs 10,000 crore ceiling.
- Compare Sun Pharma’s live move with Nifty Pharma and with the heavyweights Divi’s (~12.22% weight) and Torrent (~8.73%), so you can tell whether the leader is driving things or the whole sector is moving.
- Work from Monday’s peer closes (Sun Pharma Rs 1,760 flat; Dr. Reddy’s +2.71%; Cipla +0.79%; Divi’s +0.92%; Lupin −1.10%) and Tuesday’s timed Livemint Nifty Pharma level (25,854.65, −0.86% at ~09:32 IST), instead of recycling old percentages.
- Treat Organon refinance claims as Reuters-sourced via ET/Livemint until Sun Pharma states the use of proceeds in a primary filing.
- Go back to the stock market today India hub for Sensex/Nifty breadth and FII/DII flows as the cash session goes on.
October 13 is a financing-headline day for India’s largest Nifty Pharma constituent by weight, overlapping a sector that defended on Monday and softened early Tuesday. The clean summary for readers following pharma stocks to watch Sun Pharma NCD news: board approval for listed, rated, unsecured, redeemable private-placement NCDs up to Rs 10,000 crore after an October 7 notice that contemplated up to Rs 15,000 crore; Finance Committee still owns tranche terms; Organon bridge-loan refinance is the widely reported strategic context; and peer prices must be verified live on NSE/BSE. This is market context, not investment advice.
