Nippon Life India AMC Q2 results came out on October 22, 2026, and the headline needs a second look. Consolidated profit after tax fell 6% year on year to ₹324.4 crore for the September quarter, and 36% from the June quarter. Yet the core asset management business grew at a healthy clip. The gap between the two comes down to one line: a ₹96.76 crore exceptional charge tied to the old Yes Bank AT-1 bond episode.

Nippon Life India AMC Q2 results: the numbers
All figures below are consolidated and come from the company’s Q2 FY27 investor presentation and the board meeting outcome and results filed on NSE. The presentation reports in INR million; we have converted to crore.
- Revenue from operations: ₹795.8 crore, up 21% from ₹658.1 crore a year ago and 4% from ₹766.9 crore in Q1.
- Core operating profit (revenue minus operating costs, before other income): ₹523.4 crore, up 25% year on year and 6% quarter on quarter.
- Other income: ₹23.1 crore, against ₹36.6 crore a year ago and ₹170.2 crore in Q1, a drop of 86% sequentially.
- Profit before exceptional items and tax: ₹546.6 crore, up 20% year on year.
- Exceptional item: ₹96.8 crore (₹96.76 crore in the results).
- Profit after tax: ₹324.4 crore, versus ₹344.6 crore in Q2 FY26 and ₹503.7 crore in Q1 FY27.
For the first half, consolidated PAT rose 12% to ₹828.1 crore. The board also declared an interim dividend of ₹9.50 per share, with October 28, 2026 as the record date and payment from November 5, 2026.
What the exceptional charge is about
This goes back to a SEBI show cause notice dated August 30, 2024, over investments that some Nippon India Mutual Fund schemes made in Yes Bank’s AT-1 bonds. The company and certain officials filed settlement applications without admitting or denying the findings. According to the results notes, SEBI gave in-principle acceptance of the settlement terms during the September quarter.
The company then paid ₹7.68 crore as settlement for itself and the officials, and ₹89.08 crore (including interest) as a reversal of the management fees it had earned on those investments. Together that’s the ₹96.76 crore charge. The final settlement order from SEBI is still awaited, and the company says no further provision is considered necessary on its current assessment.
There’s a related development too. The notes say the Supreme Court on October 15, 2026 dismissed appeals against the Bombay High Court’s January 2023 judgment that had set aside the March 2020 write-off of those Yes Bank AT-1 bonds. Any recovery goes to unitholders of the affected schemes, not to the AMC’s own books.
The business underneath
Strip out the one-off and the operating story is solid. Quarterly average AUM was ₹7,871 billion, up 20% year on year and 5% on the quarter, giving a market share of 9.02%, up 51 basis points from a year ago. Equity market share stood at 7.40%. ETF average AUM rose 36% to ₹2,486 billion, with a 21.12% share of that segment.
Systematic flows for the quarter were ₹111.5 billion, up 4% year on year, and the company counts 24.3 million unique investors. The presentation says it kept its rank as the fourth-largest AMC by total and equity QAAUM.
What it means
We’d read this quarter in two parts. Core profit up 25% on revenue up 21% shows operating leverage is working, which is what investors pay up for in listed AMCs. The reported PAT dip is driven by the settlement payment and a much smaller other-income line after a big Q1, not by weaker fee income. The settlement also takes a long-running regulatory overhang closer to the finish line, though the formal order is still pending.
