The Nifty outlook for October 15 comes down to a market boxed in between two fairly clear walls. Tuesday’s sharp IT-led rebound found no takers on Wednesday. The Nifty 50 slipped 0.44% to 22,622.70 and the Sensex gave up 0.34% to 72,781.89, according to Livemint. Thursday packs in the weekly Sensex expiry, a crowded results calendar and fresh IPO launches, so traders will be watching a small set of levels very closely.

How the Nifty closed on October 14
Profit-taking at higher levels cost the Nifty 99 points and the Sensex 252 points on Wednesday, NDTV Profit reported. That came straight after a 359-point, 1.6% jump on October 13, when the Nifty closed at 22,722, as Moneycontrol noted. Livemint counted eight of the 16 major sectors in the red. Small-cap and mid-cap indices fell 0.3% and 0.1% respectively, with higher oil prices and foreign outflows doing the damage. For the full sector and stock breakdown, see our October 14 closing report.
Bulls held 22,700 for most of the day, said CNBC-TV18. A short burst of selling then pushed the index under 22,600, though it still managed to close above that mark.
Nifty support and resistance for the expiry session
The analysts mostly agree on the range. Where they differ is the exact numbers:
- Support: CNBC-TV18 sees 22,550, where the Nifty found its floor on Wednesday, as the level that matters most on the downside. Sudeep Shah of SBI Securities told NDTV Profit that 22,500–22,480 is immediate support, and a decisive break there could bring back downside momentum towards 22,330. Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities has support around 22,300.
- Resistance: CNBC-TV18 pointed to supply in the 22,750–22,800 zone; get past it and 23,000 comes into view. Shah put the immediate hurdle at 22,770–22,800, with 22,950 next if that gives way. Ajit Mishra of Religare Broking named 22,850, the 20-day EMA, as the key hurdle, and the 23,000–23,200 zone after that.
- Breakout case: According to Shetti, a decisive breakout above 22,700–22,800 could set off more short covering towards 23,100–23,200. A decisive close above 22,800 would also cancel the current bearish pattern of lower tops and bottoms.
Shetti made one more point worth keeping in mind. The market has swung between bullish and bearish candles for five sessions in a row, which is what indecision looks like on a chart.
Bank Nifty levels to watch
Bank Nifty went nowhere much on Wednesday. It ran into supply at 55,500 but closed above 55,000, CNBC-TV18 said. Om Mehra of SAMCO Securities saw fresh call writing at 55,500 and 56,000, while the highest put open interest sat at 55,000, which makes that the key base. Below it, 54,900 is the next support; above 55,500, 55,700 is an added hurdle. Shah reckons a break of the 54,900–54,800 zone could drag the index towards 54,400, and a move above 55,800–55,900 could carry it to 56,300.
What else could move the market on Thursday
The news calendar for October 15 is packed, per CNBC-TV18. At least 25 companies report results during the day, among them Wipro, Tech Mahindra, HDFC Life Insurance, HDFC AMC, Nestle India, Persistent Systems, Jio Financial Services and Polycab. Four IPOs open for subscription, together aiming to raise over ₹8,000 crore. The price band for the Jio Platforms IPO, which plans to issue 27 crore fresh shares, is also due. And the Fairfax–IDBI Bank deal keeps IDBI Bank and CSB Bank in focus.
On the macro front, Siddhartha Khemka of Motilal Oswal told NDTV Profit that high crude prices and geopolitical tension are still weighing on sentiment. Q2 FY27 earnings, along with hopes of a review of capital gains tax and securities transaction tax, could lend some support.
Nifty outlook for October 15: which side of the range gives way
With the Nifty sitting just above 22,600, the near-term band runs from roughly 22,500–22,550 at the bottom to 22,750–22,850 at the top. On a day this heavy with company news, a lot of the action may well happen in individual stocks rather than the index. Until one end of that range breaks on a closing basis, Religare’s Mishra suggests staying selective and stock-specific, with tight risk management. We’d track live index values on NSE’s market data page, and our Stock Market Today India hub follows the session as it unfolds.
