Midcap stocks today, October 13, 2026, joined the IT-led rebound properly but still couldn’t keep up with the large caps. The Nifty Midcap 100 closed at 59,459.20, up 624.65 points or 1.06%. The Nifty 50 did better, jumping 1.60% to 22,721.95, and the Sensex added 1,109.10 points, or 1.54%, to 73,033.78. Those figures come from Hindu BusinessLine’s closing wrap and NSE-sourced Midcap 100 prints. Our Stock Market Today India hub has the wider session map.

It was a clean answer to Monday’s split tape. The Nifty had slipped 0.70% to 22,363 on October 12. On Tuesday, breadth inside the Midcap 100 swung firmly positive, with 80 advances against 20 declines. The Nifty Smallcap 100, though, managed just 0.11%, so this was a midcap catch-up and not a broad smallcap rally.

Midcap stocks today, October 13: index close, breadth and relative strength

NSE end-of-day data compiled by Flash Finance has the Nifty Midcap 100 opening at 58,845.30, touching a high of 59,460.45 and a low of 58,590.25, and closing at 59,459.20 against a previous close of 58,834.55. That +1.06% matches Hindu BusinessLine’s reading. Even after the bounce, the index sits about 7.7% below its 52-week high of 64,450.90.

The BSE Midcap 150 told a similar story. MarketSMojo had it up 0.92%, with 112 stocks rising and 37 falling, an advance-decline ratio of about 3.03 in that basket. Across NSE, breadth stayed healthy for a third straight session at an advance-decline ratio of 1.38, per BusinessLine, even though large-cap IT did most of the heavy lifting in the headline indices.

For midcap desks, relative strength was the catch. A 1.06% gain in the Midcap 100 against the Nifty’s 1.60% means midcaps took part in the recovery without leading it. Smallcaps barely moved, closing up 0.11%. Risk appetite came back first in large IT and only then trickled, selectively, into midcaps.

What moved midcaps: IT spillover, order wins and earnings reactions

The Nifty IT index rallied over 5%, led by HCL Technologies at 8.28% and TCS at 6.59% on the Financial Express live close. Some of that rubbed off on midcap IT. MarketSMojo picked out Mphasis as the BSE Midcap 150’s best performer at +5.18%, while Hitachi Energy was the laggard at −3.15%. Earlier in the day, Financial Express had also noted Coforge, Persistent Systems, LTIMindtree and Oracle Financial Services trading more than 1% higher as buying spread across the sector.

Order wins and corporate news gave midcap scanners plenty to chew on. ET Markets pointed to IRCON International’s ₹862.46 crore EPC letter of acceptance from East Central Railway, and to Power Grid’s October 12 acquisition of two tariff-based competitive-bidding SPVs for renewable evacuation in Gujarat. We covered both in our defence and T&D basket note.

Results drew reactions both ways. RBL Bank reported Q2FY27 standalone net profit of about ₹482 crore, up roughly 170% year-on-year, and net interest income of ₹2,131 crore, up 37%. The stock still fell about 6% on Financial Express’s tape. Bandhan Bank went the other way and jumped as much as 9% intraday. Polycab India dropped more than 5% after NSE said it would exit the equity derivatives segment, with no contracts available from December 30, 2026.

What the October 13 midcap session means from here

The takeaway from Tuesday is participation, with a lag. Breadth of 80-20 in the Midcap 100 and 112-37 in the Midcap 150 says this wasn’t a rally carried by a handful of names. But a 0.11% gain in the Smallcap 100, and midcaps trailing the Nifty, make it hard to call this a full risk-on rotation. Flows matter too. Foreign institutional investors sold ₹1,708.48 crore on Monday while domestic institutions bought ₹3,045.02 crore, according to Financial Express’s NSDL figures. If overseas selling picks up again, domestic buying is the cushion.

Over the next few sessions, the triggers look stock-specific: Persistent Systems and other midcap IT results later in the week, and order-flow names linked to railways and renewables T&D. One good day doesn’t make a case for buying the whole Midcap 100. We’d read midcap stocks today against the large-cap IT lead, not on their own, and wait for smallcaps to confirm before calling October 13 a lasting breadth breakout. Our technical analysis for Indian stocks pillar explains the indicators traders use to frame sessions like this one.
