Tuesday, October 13, 2026, opens warily, and the market outlook for the session hangs on whether Monday’s slide carries over. The Sensex lost 547.65 points, or 0.76%, to end at 71,924.68, while the Nifty 50 shed 157.10 points, or 0.70%, to 22,363.35, ET Now reported. GIFT Nifty was signalling a flat start near 22,400 overnight. Brent crude stayed above $106 a barrel.
How Monday slipped away
The day began in the green. It didn’t last. Banking, IT and FMCG heavyweights came under selling and took the gains with them. Livemint pinned it on three things: soft high-weight bank and IT stocks, a dollar index hovering near an 18-month high around 102.5, and relentless foreign selling. The NSDL data in that report showed FPIs had sold ₹44,166 crore of Indian equities in October through Friday, taking calendar-year 2026 outflows to roughly ₹3.04 lakh crore.
Smaller stocks told a different story. ET Now noted the Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 1.42% while the headline indices fell. The rupee firmed toward 95.78 per dollar after the RBI’s recent moves to cut dollar demand. That didn’t help lenders much. PSU banks and private banks saw profit-booking after the central bank tightened its daily CRR maintenance rule.
Market outlook October 13: the Nifty levels that matter
It’s also Nifty weekly options expiry day, and expiry sessions tend to swing harder intraday. Analysts speaking to CNBC-TV18 see 22,300 as the first floor after the bounce in Monday’s closing auction. LKP Securities’ Rupak De marks support at 22,300; lose it and 22,100 comes into view, with resistance at 22,420 and then 22,650. SBI Securities’ Sudeep Shah calls 22,230–22,200 the critical zone. A clean break below it could drag the correction toward 22,050, and 22,500–22,530 is the first hurdle on the way up.
Shrikant Chouhan of Kotak Neo, quoted by Livemint, said a fall under 22,300 could speed up selling toward 22,200–22,150. He sees 22,400 as resistance close by, and if bulls take it back, a bounce toward 22,500–22,640 opens up. On Bank Nifty, CNBC-TV18 pointed to support around 54,700–54,500 and supply from 55,000 up to 55,500.
Early cues and how we read them
Early on Tuesday, GIFT Nifty stood near 22,408, about 0.17% over the last cash close, which points to a flat Nifty open around 22,401, per giftniftytoday.com. That same snapshot had Brent near $106.04, the dollar index around 102.59 and the US 10-year yield near 5.24%. India’s 10-year G-sec was around 7.4% in the CNBC-TV18 trade setup. Oil and yields are still the big weights on sentiment, even with HCLTech’s strong after-hours numbers and a packed results calendar that has Tata Elxsi and Hero Motors reporting on Tuesday.
If you’re trading this stock market today India setup, keep it simple and level-based. Nifty needs to hold 22,300–22,200, 22,500 is the first supply zone, and Bank Nifty’s 54,500–55,500 band is the one to track. For investors looking past expiry, our technical analysis for Indian stocks playbook is a better guide than chasing the opening move. FPIs are still selling hard and crude is stuck above $105, so we’d stay cautious until one of those eases.
