The telecom stocks to watch October 15 trade with a firmer Jio Platforms IPO price band in hand and Tata Communications reporting results. After Wednesday’s close, Livemint reported that Jio Platforms set its IPO band at ₹1,065–₹1,119 a share, with the issue opening on October 21. That same session left Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Indus Towers slightly in the red, while parent Reliance Industries ended higher. Tata Communications puts out its September-quarter numbers on Thursday, with a call at 4:00 PM IST.
The broader market was weak on October 14. The Sensex lost 252 points to 72,782 and the Nifty slipped 99 points to 22,623, while foreign investors sold ₹1,857.44 crore and domestic institutions bought ₹2,670.44 crore, CNBC-TV18 reported. Thursday is also the Sensex weekly expiry, so any stock-specific news can get blown up. Below we cover the Jio band numbers, where the listed telecom names closed, what Tata Communications files on Thursday, and the levels that matter for the session. The Jio Platforms IPO band, and why it matters for October 15
Jio Platforms Ltd, the digital services arm of Reliance Industries, approved a price band of ₹1,065–₹1,119 per equity share on October 14, as Livemint and CNBC-TV18 both reported from the company announcement. At the ₹1,119 upper end, the issue should raise about ₹30,213 crore. That would beat Hyundai Motor India’s roughly ₹27,870 crore raise in 2024 and make it India’s biggest IPO by size so far.
Bidding opens on Wednesday, October 21, and closes on Friday, October 23, 2026, with anchor bidding fixed for Monday, October 19. The whole issue is a fresh issue of up to 27 crore equity shares, with no offer-for-sale, Livemint said. NDTV Profit, quoting the draft prospectus, put that fresh issue at about 2.9% of post-issue equity. The minimum bid is 12 shares of ₹10 face value. At the upper band one lot costs ₹13,428, and the retail maximum for a single application comes to ₹1,61,136, by Livemint’s calculation.
Reliance shareholders should look at the reservations. The IPO keeps aside equity shares worth up to ₹500 crore for eligible employees (at a ₹54-per-share discount) and up to ₹2,500 crore for eligible Reliance Industries shareholders who held public equity as of the October 14 RHP filing date, Livemint reported. CNBC-TV18 said Reliance filed the RHP with the Registrar of Companies, Gujarat, at Ahmedabad, on Wednesday.
The Jio band turns a multi-year listing rumour into a dated primary-market event. Listed telecom stocks will now trade against a known IPO calendar, not against speculation about when the band would arrive.
NDTV Profit also pulled out the operating scale from the offer documents. Jio had a 39.29% share of India’s mobile connections with 506 million customers, a 32.89% share of fixed-line connections with 157.9 million customers, and 26.85 crore 5G customers as of June 2026. For fiscal 2026, it reported profit after tax of ₹30,053 crore, up 15%, on revenue of ₹1,46,885 crore, up 14.5%. These are company figures from the offer materials, not independent audits published by us.
Telecom stocks to watch October 15: where the listed names closed
On the BSE Telecommunication index weight list dated October 14, Bharti Airtel on its own made up about 68.34% of the index, followed by Vodafone Idea at 8.37%, Indus Towers at 6.09% and Tata Communications at 2.88%, according to Smart-Investing’s BSE Telecom constituents table. With that much concentration, Airtel’s day usually decides the sector print far more than Vi or the tower and enterprise names do.
| Stock | Close (₹) | 1-day change | Session notes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bharti Airtel (BSE) | 1,799.05 | -0.40% | Range ₹1,794.15–₹1,824.00; prior close ₹1,806.20 | WSJ |
| Vodafone Idea | 12.69 | -0.70% | Open ₹12.78; high ₹12.84; low ₹12.64 | Anand Rathi |
| Indus Towers (NSE) | 376.80 | -0.25% | Open ₹377.75; high ₹382.85; low ₹375.90 | Upstox |
| Tata Communications | 1,660.50 | -0.79% | Range ₹1,653.00–₹1,697.55; prior ₹1,673.75 | Livemint |
| Reliance Industries (NSE) | 1,174.60 | +0.68% | Open ₹1,167.00; high ₹1,188.00; low ₹1,162.70 | Yahoo Finance |
Airtel’s 52-week range on the WSJ BSE series runs from ₹1,726.05 to ₹2,174.70. Indus Towers’ 52-week range on Upstox is ₹337.80–₹481.50. Tata Communications’ 52-week range on Livemint is ₹1,323.00–₹2,109.90, and the same page lists its trailing twelve-month P/E at 59.39 against a sector P/E of 15.22. In other words, the stock is already pricing in growth before Thursday’s numbers.
Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea: the ARPU gap and the IPO overhang
The sector was under pressure even before the final band. On October 12, Business Standard reported that since the previous Thursday Bharti Airtel had slipped 1.44% and Vodafone Idea 1.02%, even as the Nifty rose 0.59%, on speculation about Jio’s IPO valuation and wider FII selling. Morgan Stanley, quoted in that piece, put Bharti’s ARPU at ₹264, against Jio’s ₹215.6 and Vi’s ₹177, and called Airtel’s ₹50 postpaid hike “reactive, slightly more competitive than peer.”
Nomura, also cited by Business Standard, said the emerging band valued Jio’s equity at ₹9.8–10.3 trillion. Apply a 20% holding-company discount and Reliance’s 66.4% stake would be worth ₹385–405 a share on that maths, about ₹136 less than Nomura’s earlier valuation. Nomura still kept a Buy rating and a ₹1,690 target on Reliance, arguing that the stock’s 26% fall this year “more than compensates.” Remember these are broker views as of October 12, not market facts for Thursday.
By Wednesday’s close, the picture had split. Airtel and Vi were still soft on the day, but Reliance rose 0.68% to ₹1,174.60 on NSE after the band was formally set in the evening window. The parent firming up as the listing calendar firms up, while listed pure-play peers stay cautious, is the first thing we would watch on October 15.
Tata Communications Q2 on October 15: the board meeting, the call and the trading window
Tata Communications’ board meets on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to consider unaudited standalone and consolidated results for the quarter and half year ended September 30, 2026, according to the company’s October 8 exchange intimation. The trading window has been shut since September 23, 2026, and stays shut until 48 hours after the results reach the exchanges.
The Q2 FY27 earnings call is set for 4:00–5:00 PM IST the same day, per the company’s investor events page. Livemint’s market-stats page lists the October 15 board purpose as quarterly results and shows the previous quarter’s net profit at ₹134.23 crore. Until the board releases the September-quarter numbers, that older figure is only context, not a forecast for Thursday.
On a Sensex expiry day, Tata Communications will move on its own numbers and guidance first. Index swings matter mainly as the backdrop that can stretch or mute that reaction.
Enterprise connectivity, data-centre links and currency translation usually dominate the questions on the call, but we would judge those themes only after the release. For Thursday’s trading, the checklist is shorter: can the stock hold above Wednesday’s low of ₹1,653 after the numbers, and do volumes pick up going into the 4 PM call?
Indus Towers: what the tower stock is saying
Indus Towers closed at ₹376.80 on NSE, down 0.25%, after opening at ₹377.75 and touching a high of ₹382.85, Upstox data show. Tower stocks often trail operator news by a session or two, because tenancy and rental growth move more slowly than ARPU headlines. With Airtel still the dominant BSE Telecom weight and Jio about to raise primary capital for its digital platform, Indus is the cleanest listed way to stay invested in Indian mobile infrastructure without taking on direct operator competition risk, as long as tenancy trends hold up when the operators next report.
The stock is still well below its 52-week high of ₹481.50 and above its 52-week low of ₹337.80. Sitting mid-range like that, its move on Thursday is more likely to follow operator sentiment and expiry flows than to start a trend of its own.
Reliance Industries: how the parent traded after the band
Reliance closed at ₹1,174.60 on NSE, up ₹7.90 or 0.68%, with a session high of ₹1,188.00, Yahoo Finance shows. The formal band and the October 21–23 window give the market a dated event to price. CNBC-TV18 quoted Deven Choksey of DRChoksey Finserv putting fair value around ₹12 lakh crore against about ₹10 lakh crore of expected market capitalisation at the IPO price, with growth of 18–20% and EBITDA possibly rising from around ₹76,000 crore last year toward ₹1.5 lakh crore over four to five years. That is one broker’s scenario, not a consensus number.
CNBC-TV18 also disclosed that Reliance Industries is the sole beneficiary of Independent Media Trust, which controls Network18, the parent of CNBCTV18.com. Worth keeping in mind when reading that outlet’s coverage of the issue.
Expiry day and the flow picture
Thursday’s Sensex weekly expiry lands on top of the Jio calendar and Tata Communications results. CNBC-TV18’s October 14 flow data, with FIIs selling ₹1,857.44 crore and DIIs buying ₹2,670.44 crore, shows domestic institutions still soaking up foreign selling, though that is a market-wide figure, not a telecom one. Oil near the mid-$100s and a weak overnight tech session can still weigh on risk appetite at the open, so telecom names may gap with the index before their own news takes over.
Our Thursday checklist for telecom names
- Jio IPO calendar: the anchor book on October 19 and public subscription on October 21–23; watch how Airtel and Vi trade once primary demand can actually be measured.
- Bharti Airtel: whether it stays above Wednesday’s low of ₹1,794.15 once the band has fully sunk in.
- Vodafone Idea: whether Wednesday’s ₹12.64–₹12.84 range gives way on expiry volumes.
- Tata Communications: the board release, then the 4:00 PM IST call; first support is Wednesday’s ₹1,653 low.
- Indus Towers: a push above ₹382.85 needs the operators to be firm; a slip below ₹375.90 would extend Wednesday’s weak close.
- Reliance Industries: whether it holds gains above ₹1,174 after the evening band news, heading into the pre-anchor week.
Here is how we read it. The Jio band takes away one uncertainty and swaps it for a dated IPO week. Tata Communications is the only large listed enterprise-telecom earnings trigger on Thursday. And Airtel still drives the sector index.
