IT stocks today (October 14, 2026) kept climbing even as the Sensex and Nifty slipped in afternoon trade. At about 3:08 PM IST, with the cash market open until 3:30 PM, the Nifty IT index stood around 30,217, up about 1.3% on the day. That came on top of Tuesday’s roughly 5.2% surge. Infosys, TCS and Tech Mahindra did the heavy lifting, and HCL Technologies was holding a small gain after its post-results jump the day before.

The benchmarks were having a different day. Selling in insurance and pharma names outweighed the buying in IT, so on the same live tape the Nifty 50 was near 22,608 (about 0.5% lower) and the Sensex near 72,752 (about 0.4% lower). If you’re tracking the sector through the rest of results week, that gap between a firm Nifty IT and a soft broader market is the thing to note. For how the indices moved earlier in the day, see our Sensex Nifty midday wrap for October 14.

IT stocks today October 14: Nifty IT stays above 30,000

Here’s what live index data on Upstox’s Nifty IT page (updated 14 Oct 2026, 15:08 IST) showed:

  • Nifty IT at ₹30,217.15, up ₹387.05 or 1.30% from the previous close of ₹29,830.10
  • Session open ₹29,937.50; high ₹30,377.15; low ₹29,879.50
  • Tuesday’s close: ₹29,830.10, a 5.22% one-day gain

So the sectoral index was above 30,000 for a second straight session after Tuesday’s IT-led rebound. The Economic Times pointed out that this was the first such print in nearly a month, and that the index had added more than 2,000 points over the two sessions.

On that same Upstox tape at about 3:08 PM IST, the Nifty IT constituents looked like this:

  • Infosys ₹1,091.20 (+₹29.10 / +2.74%); previous close ₹1,062.10
  • TCS ₹2,300.20 (+₹30.90 / +1.36%); previous close ₹2,269.30
  • HCL Technologies ₹1,328.30 (+₹2.30 / +0.17%); previous close ₹1,326.00
  • Tech Mahindra ₹1,580.00 (+₹36.50 / +2.36%)
  • Wipro ₹171.32 (+₹2.32 / +1.37%)
  • LTIMindtree ₹4,249.30 (+₹34.30 / +0.81%)
  • Coforge, Persistent, Mphasis and OFSS were flat to lower in that snapshot

ET Now’s live blog at around 2:45 PM IST also had Infosys among the session’s top movers, near ₹1,091.3 and about 2.75% higher, which squares with the Upstox print.

Why IT is still out in front after Tuesday’s HCL-led rally

Tuesday’s recovery was mostly an IT story. The Hindu BusinessLine reported that the Nifty closed at 22,721.95, up 358.60 points or 1.60%, and the Sensex gained roughly 1,100 points. HCL Technologies’ better-than-expected quarter sent HCL Tech about 8% higher and TCS about 6.6% higher, and the IT index added over 5%. ET Now’s closing figures for that session tell the same story: HCL Technologies ended at ₹1,326 (+8.42%) and TCS at ₹2,269.3 (+6.79%).

The real trigger was HCL’s numbers. Moneycontrol reported consolidated net profit of ₹5,132 crore for the quarter ended 30 September 2026, against ₹4,626 crore in the previous quarter (about 11% sequential), and net profit was up 21.2% year-on-year. Revenue from operations rose 3% sequentially to ₹35,620 crore from ₹34,579 crore, an 11.5% rise year-on-year. The Economic Times linked the wider two-day IT bid to that result and to easing fears of AI disruption, which some desks have started calling an “anti-AI” trade in Indian IT names. It said HCL had gained nearly 11% over two sessions, while TCS and Infosys rose somewhere in a 6–10% band.

Early on Wednesday, BusinessLine and India Today were already showing TCS, Infosys and HCLTech among the first stocks buyers went for, with Nifty IT up around 1.4% in the first half-hour. By midday, HDFC SKY’s 12:00 PM IST snapshot still had TCS near ₹2,300 (+1.89%) and Infosys near ₹1,080.65 (+1.75%) among large-cap gainers. Infosys then pushed higher through the afternoon.

The benchmarks fade, with crude and FII flows hanging over them

The strength in IT wasn’t enough to hold the indices up for long. BusinessLine’s afternoon live update (as of 1:05 PM IST, page updated 2:53 PM) showed the Nifty 50 at 22,615.25 (−106.70 / −0.47%) and the Sensex at 72,757.25 (−276.53 / −0.38%). IT was still the standout sector, while insurance and pharma pulled the market down. Upstox’s 3:08 PM IST panel looked much the same, with the Nifty 50 about 22,608 (−0.5%) and the Sensex about 72,752 (−0.39%).

None of this was a surprise given the caution in the morning. BusinessLine noted Brent crude at around $105–$106 a barrel, and FII net selling of about ₹1,305 crore on Tuesday, a 13th straight session of outflows, against DII net buying of more than ₹2,439 crore. Geojit Investments’ V K Vijayakumar, quoted by both BusinessLine and ET, called out the US 10-year yield near 5.2% and Brent near $106 as headwinds that could make Tuesday’s rebound hard to hold. He also said financials, telecom, metals and autos with strong Q2 expectations could stay relatively resilient.

Where IT goes from here as results week rolls on

We see three practical things to keep in mind if you’re watching IT into the close and over the next few sessions:

  • A second strong day after a 5%+ sector move is rare. Nifty IT was still in the green going into the final hour, but by 3:08 PM IST HCLTech’s move had shrunk to a fractional gain, and Infosys and Tech Mahindra were carrying more of the index. That’s a common pattern after a leadership stock gaps up.
  • The results calendar still counts. ET Now said the focus moves to Wipro’s Q2 print after HCLTech and TCS. A miss or soft guidance could unwind the “anti-AI” bid fast. A clean beat could keep Nifty IT supported even if the Sensex stays weak.
  • Sector strength isn’t index strength. Wednesday’s tape shows IT can keep rising while the Nifty and Sensex give back Tuesday’s bounce on crude, FII flows and risk-off in financials or pharma. Position sizing and disciplined stops matter more than chasing one sector’s second green day. Before you read any single result as an all-clear for the sector, see our guide on how to analyse quarterly results.

All figures above are live session quotes as of about 3:08 PM IST on 14 October 2026, with the market still open. Final closes may be different, so check the NSE/BSE prints after 3:30 PM IST before taking any level as the day’s settlement.
