Climbing back from the yearly low

This was the third leg of a rebound that started last week. On 8 October the stock sank to ₹273 and closed there, just a whisker above its 52-week low of ₹272.20. Friday brought it back to ₹279.90, and Monday pushed it past ₹284. Still, it hasn’t reclaimed the ₹288.65 close from 5 October. So for now it sits in the lower half of its recent range.

None of the reports we went through pointed to a company announcement behind the move. What stood out was the sector: autos held firm while most of the market sold off. The BSE Auto index added 0.75%, according to ET Now, with Bajaj Auto (+2.62%) and Mahindra & Mahindra also on the gainers’ list. Our Bajaj Auto share price report has the details on that one.

What dragged the broader market

ET Now put the fall down to a jump in crude oil, steady foreign selling and firmer bond yields. Brent went to about $105.8 a barrel. Carmakers feel that twice over, through fuel costs and through what it does to buyers’ appetite. FMCG, PSU bank and IT names led the losses, though smallcaps actually gained 1.42%. If you want the full set of movers, it’s in our top gainers today report.

Levels traders are watching

The 8 October low near ₹273 is the support that matters. On the upside, the ₹288–290 band from early October is the first hurdle. Monday’s volume was lighter than usual, which tells us the bounce hasn’t drawn big participation yet.
