FII DII data October 13 tells a slightly odd story: the benchmarks jumped more than 1.5%, yet foreign investors still walked out of Indian equities. Provisional exchange figures for Tuesday show foreign institutional / portfolio investors (FII/FPI) sold a net ₹1,305.13 crore in the cash market. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought a net ₹2,439.24 crore. Put together, institutions were net buyers of ₹1,134.11 crore. If you want the wider session picture, our stock market today India hub has it.

FII DII data October 13: the provisional buy and sell numbers

Here is what the NSE FII/FPI and DII capital-market report for 13 October 2026 shows (provisional, and open to revision):

  • FII/FPI: bought ₹13,465.39 crore, sold ₹14,770.52 crore. Net sale: ₹1,305.13 crore.
  • DII: bought ₹16,232.97 crore, sold ₹13,793.73 crore. Net purchase: ₹2,439.24 crore.
  • Combined net: +₹1,134.11 crore, because DII buying more than covered the FII selling.

CNBC-TV18 carried the same all-exchange capital-market totals. It also broke out the NSE alone, where FIIs sold a net ₹1,527.41 crore and DIIs bought a net ₹2,563.05 crore. Broker dashboards like Kotak Neo republish the same daily buy, sell and net columns, so you can cross-check there.

Where the flows sat against the close

Foreign selling didn’t hold the indices back. According to The Hindu BusinessLine, the Sensex climbed 1,109.10 points, or 1.54%, to 73,033.78. The Nifty 50 added 358.60 points, or 1.60%, to 22,721.95. IT did the heavy lifting. Nifty IT gained more than 5%, and CNBC-TV18 said HCLTech surged more than 8% after its second-quarter results. India VIX fell around 8%, so near-term nerves eased even while foreign money kept selling.

Monday looked much the same. On October 12, FIIs sold a net ₹1,708.48 crore and DIIs bought a net ₹3,045.02 crore, giving combined net buying of ₹1,336.54 crore, as both CNBC-TV18 and Kotak Neo show. In other words, the foreign sale shrank on Tuesday, and domestic institutions once again soaked up more than the outflow.

The October trend, and what the FII DII data tells us

Month-to-date through October 13, Kotak Neo’s cash-segment table has FIIs as net sellers of ₹42,792.12 crore and DIIs as net buyers of ₹45,839.58 crore. That leaves a positive combined net of ₹3,047.46 crore. We’ve seen this pattern for much of 2026: foreigners sell, and mutual funds, insurers and other domestic pools take the other side. If the two groups are new to you, our explainer on what is FII and DII walks through the difference.

Two more Tuesday cues are worth carrying into Wednesday’s open. The rupee kept rebounding after the weekend RBI forex measures and closed at 95.28 per US dollar, up 49 paise from 95.77, BusinessLine reported. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also called the debate on LTCG and STT healthy, and said the RBI would keep working to curb rupee volatility rather than target a level. Neither comment changes the flow arithmetic. Both did help the mood on a day DIIs were already buying.

One session of DII absorption doesn’t close the foreign-selling chapter, though. Three things to track: whether FII net sales keep getting smaller, whether DIIs stay net buyers through the rest of Q2 results week (including names on our stocks to watch for October 14), and whether the Nifty holds the 22,650–22,600 support zone BusinessLine flagged after the close. Our risk management in trading guide covers position sizing when flows drive the swings. And remember these numbers are provisional until the exchanges revise them. Treat the ₹1,305 crore / ₹2,439 crore pair as the working overnight print, not a final SEBI tally.
