Monday was a weak day for the Nifty 50, and the Dr Reddy share price today was the bright spot. On 12 October 2026, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories gained 2.71% to close at ₹1,229.40 and finished as the index’s top gainer, Upstox reported. The Nifty itself slipped 0.70% to 22,363.35, with 37 of its 50 stocks ending lower, according to ET Now.

- Open: ₹1,197.00
- Day’s high: ₹1,235.00
- Day’s low: ₹1,196.90
- Close: ₹1,229.40, +2.71%

Bouncing back from last week’s dip
This was a recovery move. On 8 October, Dr Reddy’s fell to a low of ₹1,167.20 and closed at ₹1,180. Friday saw a small lift to ₹1,197. Monday’s rally then gave it its best close of the past week, clearing the ₹1,203–1,208 band it had traded in on 5–7 October. It opened flat and ended near the day’s high, so buyers held the upper hand all session.
None of the reports we went through tied the rise to any specific company announcement. Nor was pharma rallying as a pack. Cipla did make the list of Sensex gainers, CNBC-TV18 reported, but hospital stocks got hit hard, and Apollo Hospitals was the worst Nifty performer at -3.15%.
One caveat: turnover was thin. The stock rose on lighter volume than it has been seeing lately, so we wouldn’t call this a breakout with heavy participation behind it. Our guide on volume confirmation in trading explains why that matters.
What the wider market did
Dr Reddy’s went up while the benchmarks went down. The Sensex lost 547.65 points to 71,924.68 as crude prices climbed, foreign investors sold and bond yields rose, ET Now reported. Joining Dr Reddy’s among the top Nifty gainers were Bajaj Auto (+2.62%), Tata Motors PV (+1.63%), Bharat Electronics (+1.56%) and BSE Ltd (+1.31%). Our top gainers today report has the full list.
On currencies, the rupee strengthened 93 paise to 95.78 (provisional) against the dollar on Monday. A stronger rupee usually trims the rupee value of export earnings, and pharma investors keep an eye on that for companies that sell a lot overseas.
What to watch from here
Even after Monday, Dr Reddy’s sits about 13% below its 52-week high of ₹1,414.90. The near-term question is whether it can stay above the ₹1,200–1,210 zone it won back on Monday. On the downside, the 8 October low near ₹1,167 is the recent floor. Our guide on how to find support and resistance shows how traders work with levels like these. For pharma, the next big trigger is the Q2 results season. You can track the daily moves on our Stock Market Today India hub.
