Lenskart share price news: what happened

The deal hit right at the open. At 9:15 AM, 27.08 million shares, roughly 1.56% of Lenskart’s equity, traded on the BSE. By 9:32 AM, 40.34 million shares in all (2.32% of equity) had changed hands across the BSE and NSE. The stock was then quoting about 4% lower at ₹648.90, even as the Sensex was marginally in the green. CNBC-TV18 and Moneycontrol put the value of the shares exchanged in block deals at about ₹1,895 crore.

Key figures

  • Intraday low: ₹645 on the BSE, down about 5%
  • Previous close (9 Oct): ₹677.65 on the BSE
  • Reported floor price: ₹640 per share, a 5.6% discount to the previous close
  • Offer size reported in media: a base of 15.1 million shares (0.9%) plus an upsize option of 11.3 million shares (0.7%), for up to 26.4 million shares (1.6%)
  • Alpha Wave’s stake: 3.42%, which would fall to about 1.82% if it sold the full 1.6%
  • 2026 performance: up nearly 50% year to date before the deal, against a roughly 15% decline in the Sensex; record high of ₹725 on 18 September 2026

Why the price slipped

The mechanics here are simple. When a block goes through at a discount to the last close, the share price tends to get pulled towards the deal price. Buyers have just been offered a big pile of stock at around ₹640, so not many want to pay a lot more on the open market that day. What’s happening is one investor trimming its holding. Nothing has changed in the company’s business. Business Standard pointed out that the buyers and sellers weren’t confirmed at the time, and that the exchanges put out the names in the evening’s bulk and block deal data.

A discounted block deal is often a supply event, not a verdict on the business. The real question is who bought, and whether that supply is now cleared.

What analysts are watching

Business Standard cited JM Financial Institutional Securities, which expects Lenskart’s Q2 FY27 revenue to grow about 30% year on year. It also quoted Jefferies, which says management is putting growth ahead of near-term profitability and has a long-term EBITDA margin aspiration of 25%.

What it means for investors

A stock that has run up nearly 50% this year was always a candidate for some profit-taking by a large holder, so this isn’t a shock. Two things are worth watching. First, the exchange disclosures for the buyers’ names, because long-only funds picking up the shares is usually read as a good sign. Second, the Q2 numbers, to see whether the growth estimates hold.
