The stock market this week has a crowded calendar. India’s CPI and WPI inflation numbers, a heavy run of Q2 earnings and the direction of foreign flows will decide the mood for October 13-17, 2026. Here’s what’s coming, day by day, and why each piece matters.

Where the stock market stands this week, ahead of CPI and Q2 earnings
Last week the benchmarks finally broke an eight-week losing streak. The Nifty 50 gained 0.44% for the week to 22,520, and the Sensex rose 0.78% to 72,472, according to Outlook Money.
The bounce didn’t survive Monday, October 12. The Sensex dropped 547.65 points (0.76%) to 71,924.68 and the Nifty gave up 157.10 points (0.70%) to 22,363.35, according to Upstox. Read why the market fell on Monday.
Trigger 1: CPI and WPI inflation
Outlook Money says September CPI inflation was scheduled for release on October 12, with WPI inflation following on October 14.
These prints carry more weight than usual. In its October review, the RBI raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50% and moved towards calibrated tightening. A hot inflation number would make another hike more likely. A softer one would take some pressure off rate-sensitive stocks like banks, NBFCs, autos and real estate.
Trigger 2: Q2 earnings, who reports when
Business Upturn counts more than 70 companies putting out September-quarter results this week. The bigger names:
- Tuesday, Oct 13: Tata Elxsi, ICICI Prudential Life, Den Networks
- Wednesday, Oct 14: Canara Bank, BHEL, ICICI Lombard, CEAT, HDB Financial Services, Groww, Tata Technologies
- Thursday, Oct 15: Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Nestle India, Persistent Systems, HDFC AMC, HDFC Life, Jio Financial Services, Polycab, Angel One
- Friday, Oct 16: Federal Bank, Oberoi Realty, Bajaj Housing Finance, Urban Company
- Saturday, Oct 17: HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Yes Bank
HCLTech got the season going on Monday; our HCLTech Q2 results coverage has the details. The Saturday numbers from HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank will set up how Bank Nifty opens on Monday, October 19.
Trigger 3: global data and yields
According to Outlook Money:
- US core CPI comes out on October 14 and US retail sales on October 15.
- Eurozone CPI is due on October 16.
- The 10-year US Treasury yield was at 5.24%, which keeps global financial conditions tight.
Trigger 4: crude, the rupee and FPI flows
Brent crude was at $104.70 a barrel when Outlook Money published on October 11. Oil at these levels is a threat to India’s inflation, the current account and the rupee.
The rupee stood at 96.77 to the dollar ahead of the RBI’s weekend measures, and our explainer on the RBI’s rupee measures walks through that package. Foreign selling is still the biggest worry. Check the latest FII DII data.
What it means for investors
This week is really a test of whether earnings can make up for the macro headwinds. Listen closely to what managements say about demand and margins, especially in IT and at the big private banks.
If inflation comes in hot and FPIs keep selling, we’d expect a choppier ride. Our Stock Market Today India hub tracks each day’s moves.
