What TCS reported
Per Business Standard, TCS posted Q2 FY27 net profit of ₹13,884 crore, up 14.9% from ₹12,075 crore a year earlier, on revenue of ₹73,188 crore, up 11.2%. The brokerage view was split. Nomura and Motilal Oswal stayed with Buy, while Nirmal Bang flagged subdued growth and disappointing margins.
There was a second, smaller worry that the stock brushed off. The US had halted new filings under its PERM labour certification programme for several large employers, including TCS. The company said its PERM applications had been in single digits over the last two years and that it did not expect an impact on its workforce strategy.
On NSE, TCS closed at ₹2,156.00, up 3.85%. HCLTech rose 3.38%. If you want a framework for reading such a mixed quarter, our guide on how to analyse quarterly results is a good place to start.
Other movers
Apollo Hospitals was actually the top Nifty gainer, up 4.72% at ₹8,027.50. ITC bounced 4.31% to ₹266.00 after its fall the previous day, and Eicher Motors added 4.17%. Adani Ports rose 3.10%.
The losers list was thin. BSE fell 1.43%, Reliance Industries slipped 0.65% to ₹1,170.30 and JSW Steel eased 0.61%. PTI, via The Hindu, said Reliance was the only Sensex stock to end lower.
Crude cooled, foreign selling did not
PTI reported Brent down 1.32% at $102.9 a barrel, with a Geojit analyst linking the relief to signs that US military action against Iran was unlikely before the US midterm elections. Foreign institutional investors had sold equities worth ₹12,943.58 crore on Thursday, the same report said.
That last number is worth sitting with. Friday’s bounce came even as foreign investors had just pulled out a very large sum, which tells us domestic buying and short covering were doing the work. Read it alongside our recap of Nifty on October 8, and the week looks like a sharp V rather than a turn in trend.
